Whistling Straits -- 8 miles away
Arguably the greatest championship course in the United States, Whistling Straits has hosted the 2004, 2010 and 2015 PGA Championships and the 2007 U.S. Senior Open, and it is the future site of the 2020 Ryder Cup. Whistling Straits offers two courses of dynamic contrast and world-class prestige. Open, rugged and windswept terrain defines the Straits, sculpted along two miles of Lake Michigan shoreline. Borrowing influences from Irish links courses, the Straits has fescue fairways and massive sand dune bunkers. Just inland, interspersed by four meandering streams, the grassland and dunes aspect of the Irish is a deceiving tranquil landscape..

Kohler, Wisconsin -- 16 miles away
More than 130 years ago, 29-year-old John Michael Kohler took a cast-iron water trough, added feet and enameled it, creating a bathtub. According to Kohler Company lore, he sold it to a local farmer for one cow and 14 chickens. This seemingly simple innovation launched the KOHLER brand as a household name – for kitchen & bath, power, interiors and golf & resort destinations. Kohler is known as a world-class destination, preserving the history of yesteryear while offering the gracious hospitality and single level of quality that remains a signature of Kohler to this day. The resort now includes four award-winning Championship golf courses and is also home to nine distinctive restaurants, boutique shops, Design Center, wilderness preserve, and Kohler Waters Spa (one of only 47 spas in the world to claim Forbes Five Star distinction).

Cheese Stores -- they're EVERYWHERE!
Wisconsin has rich history & tradition of cheese production dating back to the 19th century. In the words of a 2006 New York Times article, "cheese is the state’s history, its pride, its self-deprecating, sometimes goofy, cheesehead approach to life." Wisconsin has claimed the title of the largest cheese producing state in the United States since 1910, when it passed New York. The Dairy State crafts over 600 different cheese varieties (runner-up state comes in a distant second with 250 varieties), and over 3 billion pounds of cheese is produced annually. It is the only U.S. state that requires a licensed cheesemaker to supervise the making of commercial cheese. Wisconsin is also the only state to offer a Master Cheesemaker program, which is patterned on the rigorous standards of similar programs in Europe.
